Safety Officer - Oil and Gas

Job description

  1. Implement and enforce company HSE policies, procedures, and client safety requirements at site.

  2. Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits for fabrication, erection, piping, and structural activities.

  3. Identify hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective/preventive measures.

  4. Monitor permit-to-work systems (Hot Work, Confined Space, Work at Height, Lifting operations, etc.).

  5. Conduct toolbox talks, safety training, and awareness programs for workforce and subcontractors.

  6. Ensure proper use of PPE and safe execution of tasks in high-risk areas.

  7. Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe acts/conditions; prepare reports with corrective action plans.

  8. Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, and client safety representatives to maintain safe work practices.

  9. Maintain documentation of HSE records, reports, and compliance as per project and regulatory requirements.

  10. Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement at all levels of the organization.

Job requirements

  1. Diploma/Degree in Engineering or Science discipline (preferred).

  2. NEBOSH IGC / IOSH / OSHA or equivalent HSE certifications (mandatory).

  3. Minimum 5–10 years’ experience as Safety Officer in Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Fertilizer, or Refinery projects.

  4. Experience with contracting companies handling fabrication, erection of storage tanks, piping, and structural steel.

  5. Strong knowledge of international HSE standards (OSHA, NFPA, API, OHSAS/ISO 45001).

  6. Familiar with Permit to Work (PTW) systems and HSE practices in EPC projects.
