What You’ll Do

We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Software Engineer III to design, enhance, and support the ACAPS application within an agile squad environment. This role requires deep technical expertise in mainframe development and the ability to deliver high-quality software solutions while adhering to agile methodologies, coding standards, and security practices.

You will collaborate with engineers, architects, and operations teams to design and deliver reliable, maintainable, and scalable mainframe applications. The role emphasizes automation, operational excellence, and compliance with audit and risk standards to support mission-critical banking functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement new features for the ACAPS mainframe application while continuously improving technical quality.

  • Provide technical leadership within the agile squad, guiding design and development decisions.

  • Collaborate with engineers across squads to define system architectures and integrate solutions.

  • Apply test-driven development (TDD) principles to ensure code quality and maintainability.

  • Contribute to communities of practice, sharing expertise and reviewing peer code for quality and standards compliance.

  • Implement automation and DevOps practices to enhance operational efficiency.

  • Partner with operations and engineering teams to ensure stability, performance, and service improvements.

  • Stay current on industry trends, mainframe modernization, and banking technology standards.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues impacting end-users or business processes.

  • Maintain compliance by documenting processes, applying proper controls, and aligning with audit requirements.

Job requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).

  • 5+ years of experience in Mainframe/ACAPS development.

  • Strong experience with COBOL and JCL.

  • Knowledge of object-oriented and functional programming design.

  • Familiarity with software development methodologies (Agile/Scrum preferred).

  • Understanding of mainframe security and compliance best practices.

  • Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
