Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Digital Hardware Engineer to design, develop, and enhance digital hardware for embedded control platforms. This role involves hands-on circuit and PCB design, cross-functional collaboration, and delivering reliable, production-ready hardware for industrial environments.
Location: Allentown, Pennsylvania (Onsite)
Key Responsibilities
Circuit & PCB Design
Design and update schematics and printed circuit boards for embedded digital control systems
Select components and manage constraints while ensuring DFM (Design for Manufacture) and DFT (Design for Test) practices
Conduct peer reviews for schematics, PCB layouts, and design outputs
Digital Interfaces & Embedded Systems
Design microcontroller I/O, signal conditioning, and serial communication interfaces (SPI, I²C, UART)
Collaborate with firmware engineers on interface definition, timing, and board bring-up
Manufacturing & Cross-Functional Support
Plan and execute board-level validation, functional testing, and environmental/EMC testing
Analyze test results, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions
Partner with manufacturing teams to resolve build issues and support engineering changes
Support production release, including first article reviews and sustaining improvements
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
Develop production-ready documentation such as BOMs, cost estimates, and interface specifications
Maintain revision control and change documentation throughout the product lifecycle
Stay updated with latest tools, technologies, and standards in digital hardware design
Job requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering
10+ years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on digital circuits
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of digital logic, embedded microcontrollers, and serial communication protocols (SPI, I²C)
Experience with external communication interfaces such as Ethernet, RS-232, RS-485
Hands-on experience with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium)
Familiarity with circuit simulation tools (e.g., LTspice, Simulink) is a plus
Knowledge of FPGA/CPLD development and HDL (VHDL, Verilog) is a plus
Understanding of IPC-610, UL/CSA, and compliance standards preferred
