Job Overview (General Function)

As a member of an Agile squad, the Software Engineer will be responsible for implementing new features and enabling new capabilities using modern software engineering tools and practices.

The role requires adherence to organizational engineering standards and contribution to a culture of continuous improvement. The engineer will actively participate in knowledge sharing, code reviews, and technical discussions within the team.

The candidate is expected to take ownership of quality delivery while ensuring alignment with risk, security, and compliance standards.

TOP SKILLS

Must Have

  • Agile Methodology experience

  • Application development / Software Engineering background

  • Strong collaborative team player in cross-functional environments

  • Mainframe technologies:

    • COBOL

    • JCL

    • DB2

    • VSAM

Nice to Have

  • Card processing systems (TSYS, Mastercard)

  • SAS knowledge

  • Switchboard / DBT / Snowflake

  • Experience with ETL and file transfer (SFTP)

  • Remote work adaptability

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement new features while maintaining software quality

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and team activities

  • Contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing within the team

  • Participate in code reviews and follow engineering best practices

  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and tools

  • Investigate and resolve production and customer issues

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders

  • Follow SDLC processes and security best practices

  • Ensure adherence to organizational risk and compliance guidelines

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field

  • 5+ years of software development experience

  • Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Design principles

  • Hands-on experience in one or more programming languages:

    • COBOL (preferred)

    • SAS

    • Other open-system languages

  • Experience with relational databases and SQL

  • Familiarity with version control systems (Git/GitHub preferred)

  • Understanding of full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

  • Knowledge of secure coding practices

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Active mainframe development experience preferred

Preferred Skills / Plus Points

  • Experience with Snowflake and related tools (Elevate, Switchboard, DBT)

  • ETL processes

  • File movement using SFTP

  • Basic networking and firewall understanding

  • Card processing domain experience (TSYS, Mastercard)
