Position Overview
The Civil Construction Estimator is responsible for generating detailed take-offs based on accurate readings of plans, geotechnical reports, requests for proposals, and related documents. The role involves reviewing bid package documentation, preparing estimates, coordinating with clients and subcontractors, and supporting project transitions to operations.
Key Responsibilities
Generate detailed take-offs based on an accurate reading of plans, geotechnical reports, requests for proposals, and related documents.
Review bid package documentation including plans and specifications to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
Develop and distribute RFPs and RFIs as necessary.
Compile takeoffs and build estimates using HCSS HeavyBid software for review with the estimating team.
Correspond with clients, customers, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and other necessary entities to submit a complete bid package.
Create initial project schedules for submission with proposals as requested by clients/customers.
Help transition successful estimates/awarded projects to the operations team, including involvement in project buyout and setup during the initial phase.
Maintain estimating logs and other process-tracking measures.
Negotiate with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers as necessary.
Collaborate as a valued member of the management team.
Job requirements
Qualifications
Experience: 2+ years of experience in site development or heavy civil construction.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field of study.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet project deadlines.
Driven and capable of meeting project deadlines.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to read and scale civil engineering plans accurately.
Strong understanding of quality and accuracy standards.
